2014 Earth Day Celebration at 18th Annual Green Tie Affair
Birmingham, AL – In celebration of Earth Day in 2014, the Alabama Environmental Council will host its 18th annual Green Tie Affair on Tuesday, April 22nd, from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens with more than 300 guests expected!
For more than 40 years, citizens have gathered together to celebrate Earth Day, and the Green Tie Affair will be a great occasion for that in 2014. In 1970, Earth Day capitalized on the emerging environmental consciousness, channeling that energy and putting environmental concerns front and center. The Alabama Environmental Council continues that advocacy today by engaging citizens, corporations, ad elected officials toward sustainable living and stewardship of the environment. The Green Tie Affair is the Council's annual fundraiser with proceeds going to benefit statewide work.
The public is invited to attend the 18th Annual Green Tie Affair Auction and Party on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is located at 2612 Lane Park Road and this will be the first time the event is hosted there. A limited number of tickets will be available for $50 until April 14 and will then cost $60. Tickets can be purchased online at aeconline.org/greentieaffair or by calling (205) 322-3126.
The Green Tie Affair will feature live music by the Sam Pointer Band, heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by local restaurants, a silent auction offering items such as getaway packages to the Gulf Coasts or Virgin Islands, local art and amazing locally made handcrafts, and gift certificates to some of the state’s favorite restaurants. Good People Brewing Company, Avondale Brewing Company and Cahaba Brewing Company will provide complimentary beer. Dress for the evening is creative casual.
