Benefits and Bands: Weekend Preview for 7/26-7/28

This upcoming weekend is all about heart it would seem. 

There are a number of benefits around Birmingham, to benefit your ear and your soul. People with all different tastes and concerns can enjoy some great music, food, entertainment and know the money they spend is helping a cause they care about.

Land Aid at Avondale Brewing Co:
Friday Night Avondale Brewing Company will host a benefit for the Fresh Water Land Trust Junior Board from 7 until midnight.

"This summer, local artists are joining with the Freshwater Land Trust Junior Board to promote, educate and raise money to aid in our mission of Preserving the Places that Matter."

- The Green Seed
- Sue Scrofa


Tickets:
- $20 in advance
- $25 at the door













BirmingJam at Stillwater Pub:
The Band Festival Expressions plays Stillwater.
Visual arts by Alabama Funk.

Starts at 10PM Friday night.
All proceeds go to First Light Women and Children of Birmingham.  $5

Benefit for Sandy's Place:
This Saturday from Noon till late night, Noccalula Falls hosts a benefit for Sandy's Place, a refuge for displaced women. Sandy's Place is attempting to raise money for operating funds and to build cabins to meet the increased demand for mothers with young children. (see video below)


The benefit, presented by Falling Eagle Productions, will consist of 12 bands of diverse genres; rap, blues, country, new-age, rock, etc. (scroll down to see list)

"Donations will be taken at the gate for this great cause,coolers & lawn chairs are welcome. So plan to come out & spend the day with us.We will have door prizes so come out & spend the whole day."

5th Annual Otey's Fest:
Another Saturday event, this year's Otey's Fest benefits Camp Bridges (www.campbridges.org) and The National MS Society.
Saturday, July 27, in the Otey's parking lot, Crestline Village, gates open at 5pm.

Hope 4Gabe:
Also on Saturday, starting at 2PM, The Red Shamrock, in the Town of Mt. Laurel, is hosting and event to benefit the Hope 4 Gabe foundation, working to help fund research for a cure to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the most prevalent, genetically inherited neuromuscular disorder worldwide, affecting 1 in 3500 young males. "We are having a special Hope for Gabe Day at the Red Shamrock Saturday, July 27...stop by and have some fun if you're in town! We'll take all of the money off the ceiling, count it, and put it towards our research fund!! We'll have a dunking booth for the Chelsea High School football coach and choice others, games, live music, and rides for the kiddos:) Hope to see you there!"

Hey Jude. Rooftop Benefit for Amy & Jude Mayorga:
On Sunday there will be a unique benefit on the roof of The Redmont Hotel in Downtown Birmingham. The Paytones will be recreating the final live performance of the Beatles which took place on the roof of Apple Records in 1969.

The proceeds from the show will go to Amy and Jude Mayorga. Amy tragically lost her husband in a car accident and has a 6 month old son and another child on the way.


"There will be a silent auction of art and memorabilia inspired by The Beatles music as well as a raffle of locally donated goods.

"General Tickets are $20
VIP tickets are $100 and include free food and drinks, a show poster/t-shirt

"All proceeds of the show will go to Amy and Jude."
