***The Carlton Reese Mem..whaa?!: Originally titled The Alabama Movement for Human Rights Choir, The Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir traces its origin to July of 1959. At the behest of Fred Shuttlesworth this choir was formed to not only bring people together but to inspire them to action. It was said by many famous personalities, including boxing champion Joe Louis, that the melodious voices of the choir have left their hearts standing on tip-toes and that they shall never forget this nationally recognized group. This choir was at the heart of the Civil Rights Movement and many of the members went to jail during the Birmingham struggle, protesting the evils and unwarranted habits of segregation. The Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir continues to inspire with their unique performances. In their own words they tell us, "We endeavor to perpetuate and promote the music of the civil rights struggle and to keep the melodies of freedom and hope alive within the hearts of all people."***
